چکیده

Abstract In Masbate, senatorial scallop Chlamys senatoria is one of the five commercially important species present in Asid Gulf, but its basic biology poorly understood Philippines. To provide biological information for future conservation and management, reproductive rhythm relation to lunar phase was investigated from October 2016 March 2017. Scallops were collected daily fishers’ catches measured, dissected, processed histological analysis; whereas, fecundity size eggs (diameter) also determined. Ecological parameter such as bottom water temperature monitored during sampling period. Results showed that C. a highly fecund species, which ranges 8.3 X 10 5 2.1 6 oocytes per female sizes (oocytes) 53.8 µm 72.5 while Gonado-somatic index (GSI) 3.2 7.1. Fecundity, egg diameter, GSI decreased new moon (NM) full (FM). indicates onset spawning activity commences NM FM. Environmental parameters significant variations phase. Spawning follows pattern, initiated influenced by different factors temperature, amplitude, light effect lunar/tidal cycles. These findings indicate reproduction necessarily are related associated with phases. Strategies managing resource can be formulated using temporal dimension

Nucleotide sequence of the 18S ribosomal RNA gene from the Atlantic sea scallop Placopecten magellanicus (Gmelin, 1791).

The Atlantic sea scallop, Placopecten magellanicus, is a bivalve mollusc that occurs along the Atlantic seaboard of North America. It is commercially exploited and in many areas has sustained an important fishery for more than 60 years (1). Recently it has been targeted as a potential species for aquaculture (2). The 18S rRNA sequence presented below represents the first complete molluscan sequ...

Lunar periodicity in the shell flux of planktonic foraminifera in the Gulf of Mexico

Synchronised reproduction offers clear benefits to planktonic foraminifera – an important group of marine calcifiers – as it increases the chances of successful gamete fusion. Such synchrony requires tuning to an internal or external clock. Evidence exists for lunar reproductive cycles in some species, but its recognition in shell flux time series has proven difficult, raising questions about r...

Reproduction of Pisidium casertanum (Poli, 1791) in Arctic lake

Freshwater invertebrates are able to develop specific ecological adaptations that enable them to successfully inhabit an extreme environment. We investigated the brooding bivalve of Pisidium casertanum in Talatinskoe Lake, Vaigach Island, Arctic Russia. Here, quantitative surveys were conducted, with the collection and dissections of 765 molluscs, on the basis of which analyses on the brood sac...

Postingestive selection in the sea scallop, Placopecten magellanicus (Gmelin): the role of particle size and density.

Suspension-feeding bivalves can influence the energy value of their food supply by particle selection at various stages from particle clearance to production of feces. Previous workers have found that some bivalve species (Mercenaria mercenaria, Mytilus edulis) are capable of postingestive selection within the stomach. Few studies, however, have attempted to isolate the factors that influence p...
